ˇ§Good
evening and welcome to the Pearl Report. The weather is becoming increasingly
unpredictable. This spring in Hong Kong was unusually cool and dry. Typhoons
came earlier than in previous summer and elsewhere saw monster hurricanes, wrenching
floods or searing droughts. And who knows what the rest of the year will bring.
Experts believe the unusual weather is partially caused by El Nino, a natural
phenomenon which appears every 3 to 4 years. But why has El Nino caused acted
up recently? Many scientists believe the ultimate offender is man-made emissions
of greenhouse gases. The earthˇ¦s atmosphere is supposed to keep in the sunˇ¦s
rays but incessant industry development has polluted out skies to the point
that some specialists say Hong Kong could stop in its tracks in a few decades.
So it seems to put a handle on climatic changes, it is mankind who must change
first.ˇ¨
